Pectin from Three Vietnamese Seagrasses: Isolation, Characterization and Antioxidant Activity

This study focused on the isolation and structural characterization of pectin from three distinct species Vietnamese seagrass including Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, Halophila ovalis. The yield obtained acoroides was highest, corresponding to 24.15%, followed by those hemprichii (20.04%) ovalis (19.14%). physicochemical properties total carbohydrate content, anhydrouronic acid (AUA) equivalent weight (EW), methoxyl content (MeO), degree esterification (DE) were determined using various analysis techniques. all found be low-methyl-esterified pectin, with MeO DE for E. T. H. being 6.15% 27.18%, 3.26% 43.31%, 4.65% 33.25%, respectively. average molecular (MW) analyzed size-exclusion chromatography. Pectin had highest MW 173.01 kDa, a 127.32 that ovalis, 56.06 kDa. Furthermore, pectins exhibited high antioxidant activity might promising as antioxidants.
